Fisher-Price Imaginext® Eagle Talon Castle Review

My son started Kindergarten today. I was trying to think of something I could give him sort of as a “congratulations on this milestone” gift. However, I didn’t want it to be just another video game or movie. He spends too much time in front of the TV screen as is! I was thrilled when the Imaginext® Eagle Talon Castle arrived from Fisher-Price. They sent me one to review and it was the perfect gift for him! Not only does he know have something to play with where he can use his imagination, but we agreed he will start a journal and write mini stories or draw pictures based on the stories he makes up while he is playing with the castle a few times a week after school! This will keep him away from the TV and will keep mom happy!

As my son tore into the box I could tell that he was intrigued. This new Imaginext toy has cool lights and sounds that are part of the Fisher-Price Action Tech™ technology. My son thought it was true magic when the castle recognized the cannon ball shooter and lit up as he positioned it near the entrance. As he was swept away into medieval times play, I could see that this was going to be a hit! The castle can also expand from 20” to 42” and can be re-positioned in a number of different ways. Because it folds and unfolds, it has more of a 3dimensional feel to it. This worked well for when he wanted to take it to different surfaces to continue with his imaginative play and pretending that things like the counter were really a swamp in front of the castle!

The entire set includes three action figures that can be positioned at various points to make the castle turn, light up, and pop out new and interesting items. A turn of the center disc springs an Eagle head out of the middle that can launch discs across the living room floor. My son could pretend to be attacking oncoming dragons! Other activators bring down wings that shield the front windows and walls that flip up and down to shield the interior. There is also a locking drawbridge; we all know a castle isn’t complete without one of those! Preparing the castle to guard against attacks would never be complete without the great sound effects of eagle screeching and rock grinding! And, of course, there is even a hidden treasure chest that kids can make sure ogres don’t find!

One of the things I love the most about this toy is that it is big enough for more than one child to play with. So, when my son’s little brother decided he wanted to join in on the imaginative fun, there was plenty of room! Girls love to play with dollhouses, but this is truly a version of that for any child! Boys and girls alike are sure to love this toy and they could continue to add characters to the set to build upon their story telling adventures!

The entire set includes the transforming castle, 3 figures, 2 catapults, 1 Action Tech™ cannon with 2 projectiles, 3 helmets, 3 shields and 3 swords, 8 firing discs for catapults and eagle head, treasure chest, 2 ladders and 4 flags. It does require 2 “AA” batteries, but a set is included. This Fisher-Price toy is recommended for children ages 3-8 and while they sent me this one free of charge, it only retails for around $59.99 and the value for a toy that is made well and will last is great!
