This past weekend, I had the pleasure of taking my nine year old daughter to the Sugar Plum Party held at the Kentucky Center for the Arts prior to the performance of the Brown Forman Nutcracker. My daughter had never been to a performance of The Nutcracker, and The Sugar Plum party proved to be a great introduction to The Nutcracker.

The Sugar Plum Party was festively decorated with Nutcracker decorations throughout including an area to have your picture taken with some of the characters. There were two tables of food, one table had nut free items and the other table did not. Both tables offered small lunch meat sandwiches and pinwheel roll-ups; pretzels as well as all kinds of delicious sweets from various chocolates, to cookies, muffins, cookies, cupcakes and Danish.

Throughout the party cast members in costumes joined the party, walking around from table to table, greeting party guests, taking pictures and interacting with the children. The children at the party enjoyed interacting with the soldiers, angels, jockeys and mice.

There was also a craft area to entertain children sponsored by The Mommy Nest. My daughter loves crafts, and this area was just perfect for her. We decorated a small picture frame with foam stickers and plan on putting one of the pictures with took with a few of the cast members to remember our special day. We also decorated a foam snowflake ornament; made a mouse out of felt to hold a candy cane; colored a nutcracker; and decorated The Nutcracker scene.

After enjoying the delicious food and making some festive crafts we joined in the holiday sing-along. In the party room they had a woman playing familiar holiday songs on the piano, and they encouraged the children to come up and sit on the floor near the piano and join in singing.

After enjoying all that The Sugar Plum Party has to offer we were even more excited to see The Nutcracker
