Review

I was thrilled to take my girls to experience The Nutcracker, sponsored by Brown-Forum, at the Kentucky Center for

the Arts in downtown Louisville this past

b2ap3_thumbnail_nutc5_20141210-033754_1.jpgweekend.  The day started with the Sugar Plum Party before the show

(11:30-1) where there were a number of tables hosted by several

businesses, including The Mommy Nest! I had both of my daughters

attend the Sugar Plum Party and the Nutcracker with me!  They

both had a blast as they made Holiday frames and ornaments at the

tables.

Several characters from the Nutcracker show joined the Sugar Plum Party to take pictures and network with the crowd.  The kiddos loved the characters as they lined up to give hugs and take pictures.  The Sugar Plum Party staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating as the party was in full swing.

In addition to the Sugar Plum Party, there were many vendors set up in the main lobby where folks could purchase Nutcracker goodies, peanuts, popcorn, candy, and drinks while admiring the wonderful artwork displayed on the walls!

The show started promptly at 1:30 p.m.  Everyone was dressed in their best Sunday attire as they lined up to enter theb2ap3_thumbnail_nutc4_20141210-033749_1.jpg

Whitney Hall for the performance.

The stage was fabulous and the theater was packed!  My girls and I couldn’t wait for the

show to start.  The Louisville Ballet really put on an excellent show and there were times

during the show I had tears in my eyes.  Both of my girls were sitting on the edge of their

seats in awe of the performance.

The choreography, music, lighting design, magic, and illusion was amazing!! There were two

Acts…Act 1 included 5 scenes (Herr Drosselmeier’s Workshop, Marie’s Bedroom, The Party,

The Battle, and Journey through the Land of the Snow) …

Bubbles were falling from the ceiling during the last scene which made all of us in the audience feel part of the Land of the

Snow.  At intermission, we took the opportunity to go look around at the artwork in the lobby and check out all of the

vendors.  The second act of the show included 2 scenes (The Journey to the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy and The Palace of

the Sugar Plum Fairy) was by a favorite for both of my girls!

The show ended at 3:30 p.m. and I can say that it felt like were only there for a few minutes as they show was AMAZING!!!

The Nutcracker show was an absolute artistic vision and definitely a family friendly activity to do with family and friends!  I

highly recommend this performance and this will for sure now be a tradition for this season with my two girls.
